 Post subject: very hot coil help

my coil is over the top hot, u could fry an egg in seconds on it, i have bought a new coil but would anyone tell me what may have caused the problem, like which side does the distributor wire go to??? just to be sure

3 wires go to it i think,, 2 to the negative side from the dissy and tacho if you have one. The other wire goes to positve from the igntion switch. If you leave your ignition ON then you will fry your coil. probably getting hot as its always got power going to it maybe??

Additionaly...do you have a Resistor Coil (GT40r) and running a Resistor :idea:

if u have fryed your capictor and it earthing out it will get hot too but the car will not start

These only get hot if it's a `resistor' coil (1.5 ohm) and NOT running a resistor.. :wink:

Wiring a demo car one time i connected the wires the wrong way around and the coil got superhot real quick. Check your connections.
