It would have been British Leyland, like my MK 3 (mutant)

Right well it's here!! :D I picked it up late last night and drove it back home (no wof, rego, or bonnet!! )

Anyway I have since picked up the bonnet. 1st impression are.......sweet 8) The gear changes are nice and clean, no more crunching....and in general it's running smooth. Few things though......brakes, there are none  well almost none, it does brake but even foot hard down it's hard to come to a stop. What do you guys reckon?? New pads or what?? My horn no longer goes but I’m guessing that's and easy fix (I need it for the wof though) I have no number plate light as prior to it going in for repair for like a year someone hit my mum from behind, there was a dent just under it so we pulled it off, a mate did a sorta patch up job so I guess I'll just re-attach it, how does it attach to the car??

The rear bumper is pushed in a bit :( which is JUST pushing against the bottom off the boot which is I assuming why the boot looks a tad open on the opposite side (closes but the thin line around is a lil bit more open on that side) I’m hoping when I pull the bumper away it will be fine. Are those bumpers repairable?? or should I TRY and find a replacement??

The descriptions on the invoice for work done are as follows:

Diff side seals

Strip engine off gearbox
Engine degreaser
Main shaft
Clutch plate
Clutch release bearing
Gasket/seal kit
Main shaft bearing
Syncro rings
Housing
Main shaft roller bearing
4th gear hub
Water pump
Front exhaust pipe and clap

15 hours labor all up :( $660 worth of parts.

Most of that stuff means nothing to me, LOOKS like a fair bit of work, worth the price I ended up paying I highly doubt though. One thing I noticed on the way home was the temp gauge in the car went up and down a fair bit, when I stopped for gas ($20 of 98 and a full tank...YAAAA, oh and a litre of oil as it was virtually empty) it was on almost the top hot BUT the engine seemed fine, we took the water cap off to top it up (was ALMOST full anyway) the water was brown, rust yeah?? If the engine was too hot we wouldn't have been able to take the cap off aye? It was WARM but not hot, and the water was WARM.

Now for some pics with questions etc:

What is the WIRE comming from the little white....thing, that seems to go down to the circle plastic bit and up to nothing?? shouldne't it be somewhere??

Image

IF I can get this bolt off will it allow me to remove the steering wheel??

Image

Assuming it does that means I can get this bit off and stop it from RATTLING!!!!!

Image

Steering wheel is quite cool, says "Mini Royale"

Image

Im obviously going to re-do the paint work, as you can see there are some bits that have peeled off.......1982 Leyland Mini, round nose yeah??

Image

Engine shot:

Image

Sorry....hard to read, mean anything to anyone?? I can see something .AU there, means Aussie??

Image

That's the temp gauge that was going up and down:

Image

Where to put front speakers??

Image

Standard wheels yeah? I mean would it have come with these??

Image

These:

Image

Could be replaced with these??

Image

These could go in place of the front orange ones yeah??

Image

That's it for now :)

Cheers

Well actually Im only saying it's a Leyland as that is what it is registered as....that doesn't mean it is one though, it's what ever the person that brought it into the country called it, even if they didn't exactly know what it was, assuming the description was SIMILAR to what it looks to be they would allow it to be called that. Is there any way I can REALLY confirm what it is??

Cheers

If you look in the 3rd pic down, that black peice sitting roughly 2cm from the nuts on the bottom of the steering wheel is not attached to anything. It can move freely up and down and just sits there rattling, I guess it should just be stuck to the bottom of the steering wheel?

Cheers

Australia was the only country that had "Leyland Minis"

The UK built Minis were never badged as Leyland Mini.
They were Austin and Morris and then they were just Mini, then towards the end they were called Rover Minis.

Your car is a "Mini" made by Leyland.

My 1275LS is a "Leyland 1275LS" made by Leyland.
My 1968 Cooper S is a "Morris Cooper S" made by BMC.

The car you have would be a British Leyland. I have a Mk III (mutant). You have a Uk import or could be South African.

Not sure if yours would have been MK III or later model. Mine is a 1973 which is a Mk III.

The plate under the bonnet you have is the exact same as mine.

My interior looked like that also and so did the bonnet badge.
