I just plugged mine into the respective slots on the existing votlage regulator spot?
Haven't tried it yet for obvious reasons - I thought that would still work?

Jim you want undo that big end nut they're bloody tight + have a fat compresed spring washer under them - the easiest way to undo is with an air ratchet. Or holding the alt in a vice, a fat allen key inside the shaft (if its hexagon shaped) and uplying ridiculous ammount of force on the nut with a spanner or something.

Sounds like your 35 year old voltage stabiliser had had enough, like my 35 year old brake light switch just did.
Wonder what Lucas (or Smiths) part will fail next... :?

Damn right it does. Last week `twas the stoplight switch, this morning the number plate lamp- the brass bit inside it fell apart. So I got a better s/h one from Mini Suzuki in 7 Hills.

Anyhow, I got Ha-Ha's pink slip today!
Cobra race seat on my DrMini frame.. no problem.
Only thing he didn't like lots was my plastic 1L oil bottle breather can, said it should be metal- so I'll make a beer can one for next time. 8)
