If it's an early car they bolt straight in, but the reel's mounting plate is too long and the reel rubs on the door pocket.
I just drilled another hole in it closer to the reel, then cut the surplus off the end of the plate. No this does not weaken it, at all.

P/no of these Klippan belts is K1512.

Interesting Discussion on the safety of belts. As an ex-Abmo I feel I may be qualified to comment.

Having cut many people out of wrecks, and examined first hand and personal the damage that belts can inflict, the main point I would like to make is to squash this urban ledgen that static belts are safer.

The argument that because they do not have to go through a detecting an impact, then lock the rereal, then allow the belt to take up the slack on the real before taking up the stretch in the belt is a copelling one on the surface. It sounds quite sound and IN THEORY should be right.

But. Your not comparing apples to apples.

Very Very rarely are static belts EVER worn properly. The simple truth is that they are just too uncomfortable to wear properly for road driving so people would loosen them off considerably to allow a reasonable amount of freedom of movement while driving on the public roads. I do not include race drivers on the track here - they do the restraints up properly but the general public never did.

So now in a prang, in all reality, you are comparing a dynamic bet that will lock within about a 1/4" of travel, verses a static belt that has at least 2" and possibly up to 10" of slake in it before any strain is taken up on impact.

It is the body hugging nature of the inertia reel belts that dramitically improve survivability becaus it is reducing the time between car imact and when the body decelleration commences.

If you are consiously deciding to use static belts as an increased safety measure then you would not be putting in static lap, or lap/sash belts but you would be going for 3", 6 point harnesses and doing them up properly.

food for thought.

ps - As far as I was aware there are laws preventing the reuse of belts after an accident. But like a lot of good laws, there is very little enforcement.

I got mine for $75 each at autobarn and I dun care what you say, my old lap sash belts were at least 20 if not 36 years old and these new ones are definately better by a few country miles!

I have a 72 clubman, is it the same as an earlier car?

Are the belts in rear pockets or under door?
If under door, you have a problem.. the Clubbie seats will foul the reels as they are wider in the base.
I tried them in Barney, (with early Clubbie seats) had to take them out as I'm over 4"-10" tall...

looks like i have a problem then, the mounts are under the doors. are early clubman and round nose seats thinner at the base?

All the Clubbie seats where the back tips forward are wider than roundnose seats (1 pc) that tilt instead. It's the tilt mechanism that fouls the reel.. :x
You could try swapping the seats around so the tilt lock is near the handbrake.. :?

Yeh switching sides does it.
You have to modify the lever that tips the seat a bit cause it hits the exhaust tunnel and swap the piece that holds the base down at the back over to the other leg of the seat.

Did that make sense?

that would be awesome if other people could drive and not crash in to you. but accidents are always gonna happen, so may as well be as safe as you can be!

personally, i think giant cotton balls could be a good concept ...
