I think we have decided to try and repair the rust ourselves. Both the front and rear passenger sides are rusted through, and so is the outer sill. The boot is also rusted out but not sure if im going to replace that right away.
So i was wondering, does anyone have any advice on what to do and what not to do? Has anyone done it themselves and how did they do it/what did they use that worked well or not? Should i just buy the panels from a mini shop or is there somewhere good to buy the bestest panels from? :) Or even does anyone know the name of a book or website which could help me out. Any info is appreciated :)

Go for it , the shell has got to be worth the trouble tho, i am in the process of doing the battery box and drivers side floorpan in 2 minis now. If you know someone with a MIG welder it helps too.
Steve.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Have a go....if you get nowhere, then pay someone to do it.

If it's major rust I wouldn't try it unless you can weld. If you can then go for it

Go for it. I spent last weekend bringing the area under the front bumper back to bear metal, rust converted, etch primed then sprayed. Looks bling bling now

Not bad for a home job with canned paint
