Talking to some mechanics over here one thinks it maybe from a MG another thinks maybe an Austin A40.

Ill try to look up some other cars history.

Old type A40 head won't fit, not A series- unless it's the later `A40 Farina', but I'm pretty sure those got a 2A628 (same as 948 Morris Minor & 850).

F***...! it's only a bloody Mini head.. its worth is determined by the valves in it!
I still wonder WTF it is though...

I don't collect small bore heads any more, only 1275s... :P
Might have a couple of 1275LS ones for sale soon!
One unleaded, one not..

Yeah I know its only a mini head and yes I certainly will measure the valves soon. Then I'll be after your wisdom doc :)

And I agree from what I have read up cant be the A40. If the block is the proper match, which i believe it is, by naming convention it has to be a from mini or a metro. But since its not a A+ it has to be from a mini. Well thats as close as I can get to reasoning it.

But I just want to know for:
a) The curiosity factor.
b) If it is indeed a mini head then it should be put in a documented list somewhere. So if some wally like me wants to know in the future he/she can find it.
c) If its worth something I'll flog it off to some collector of obscure stuff, so I can save to afford a nice 1275. Unfortunately I have no spare pennies to get one atm.

But yeah I appreciate everyones input, cheers guys.

Clayton
