I solved that problem. Fitting an orange dot clutch will balance those leg muscles up

Actually, I've often wondered if I have - the clutch was replaced not long before I bought the mini, and it is incredibly hard! Pushing it in by hand is almost impossible. I just presumed that it wasn't replaced properly or something...

What are you doing pushing it in by hand?

Must make driving quite difficult!

I went from blue dot (almost impossible to push by hand) to orange dot (impossible by hand). Drove my son's very original Clubman on the weekend and was amazed at how soft th clutch was. Guess you just get used to pumping the pedals harder.

I finally got my Holden Barina electric power steering column.
having a quick measure and looks like it is going to be a nice and easy fit. Also looks like going to be nicely hidden too.

What are you doing about the speed sensitivity?
Have you bought one of the "black box" kits from the UK?

haha yer it does a bit. but it makes the car faster as well lol.

it's not that bad but it pulls a little bit.

The mg power steering is the one you want to do mate.

it's very cheap as well.

good on you dude, I hope it works out :D

take loads of photo's and do a how too! :D

might be hard with the speed sensor unless you run mega jolt?

that would make it easier?

Yes I have one of those boxes; They say that it does simulate the speed sensor. I do not know how. Lost of ford Escort MK II guys are using it and they very happy.

This one is very similar to MG ones. Reason that I did choose the GM one is I don`t have to use the speed sensor. No one is doing adjustable electronic box for those. But they are pretty good too.

Clutch weight is significantly increased if you don't set the diaphragm spring flat. I'm told that, if done correctly, the orange plate doesn't significantly increase pedal weight ... I didn't get mine right :(

And steering weight increases with caster..... and reduces...

Cheers, Ian

I first thought of the concept of power steering on Minis when I used to race Speedway. As I used a Jack Knight LSD and about 9 inch wide wheels on the front with Four Wheel Drive tread the Mini was very heavy to steer especially getting in corners in the Garage. On the track I found that an old Mk1 Steering wheel was the best and cheapest answer with the only problem being that Turns were much longer because of the Diameter. It was a very good way of developing good Biceps. I did look into fitting a standard type hydraulic Rack which I still have but I never bothered fitting it as I though it would be something that will give unnecessary problems. I also have the Pump that I had already manufactured brackets for to fit below the Alternator and run of the same belt. It would have been a bit of a power loss too driving the pump. The Rack I had was out of a Mazda Astina which is exactly the same length as the Mini one from Knuckle to knuckle. The Firewall would have needed a fair bit of Modification to get it to fit without fouling the pedals too. I would have loved to do it just the same but the time came that I gave speedway up. I still have the car sitting in the corner of my shed as it was after the last race I had at Yandina in 1998. One day I will pull all the good bits off it and sell them as I am sure I will never use it again. I have had my fun from it.

I take great care with setting clutch height, the orange plate on both my motors isn't `heavy' at all, but it sure does bite... 8)

god get a gym membership ittle be cheaper.. the steering in all the minis ive driven (even the ones with 13;s and fat tyres) have been easy.. ive driven race cars with wide 16 inch wheels without power steering with reletive ease.. adjust your driving style before spending money on that lol
