Hi drmini,
You right welding is illegal in Victoria too.
That is why nothing has welded, all been fabricated professionally.
there is a guy in UK selling kit for Mini all made up for a good price too but all welded.
If I was going to weld I could finish it in a day or two really.
Even the holes on the top shaft has been done in a some special tank with arc or something.
If anything I believe it is better and more collapsible than the original column.

I was referring to your 3rd last picture (with the tape measure in it)- are not those 2 splined clamps welded together??
If not, my bad...

Thanks for that.
Yes still good feel, I did not past the quarter of the adjustment( it is adjustable)

that one is the bottom piece and two of them slide into each others with splines and has some space in it to be able to claps.
