I can not believe how long it took the guy to built the bottom shaft. Yesterday we did the test fit and perfect, now he is doing the top shaft. He also promised that it will be done by Monday. So I am doing the wiring. Here is the instructions for the wiring; 
Pretty straight forward. |

Hi all, Finally all done. I have working power steering now. I will post some pictures and some link for video too tomorrow(I am going to Knox show in a minute) Anyone who is coming to Hanging Rock this Sunday can see it live and on action. lol. |

If the power steering electricals fail, can you still steer the car? If the steering in my bini goes I wouldn't be able to steer it, and I've heard of a few cars that are similar.

I managed to stall my wife's Golf in third the other day, and although the steering was horrendously heavy, you can still steer it. Wouldn't like to try parking it though! |

If you're chuck norris or niel armstrong then you might be able too, but I can't. If my power steering carks it, I will crash.

Hi all, If something stuffs up you can still steer as normal.(out of a Holden Barina) Just came back from Knox; it is so much fun to drive. I fell in love with Mini`s again. Cornering is fantastic; so easy and fast. |

Here is the finished product. I am putting some measurements too if anyone interested of doing the same. Guy who did the job has got all the measurements and molds for the splines now so it would be pretty straight forward job for the next time. 
This is the bracket that I made. It holds the Barina bracket holes and bolts on to the original spot in the Mini. At the bottom you need to weld a wider tube so it does slide in to Barina column. 
This is the bottom bit. We used original bottom part that bolts on to steering rack(left side on the picture). and made another bit that excepts the bottom of the Barina(right side of the picture). 
This is the top shaft that has been fabricated; bottom of it fits to Holden Barina column, top diameter and treads are made to identical to Mini. 3 holes that you see; 2 of them they have grab screws and align with slots that were there before. Helps to stop top shaft coming out. third one just needed when they were drilling the holes to flow the water. Top shaft needs to stick out of the shaft 8.5 cm so you can put the indicators. One thing that I did find out that; do not use lowering bracket unless you adjust the steering rack. |

Cool! Well done. I had thought a while back of doing this on my car if the steering was too heavy with wide wheels and an LSD. Might also mean you could run more caster if you wanted. So does the assistance vary with speed? Cheers Madmorrie |

Well done! My only Q- is it legal to weld steering components as you have done? I know it's illegal (in NSW) to weld brake parts... |

That is why nothing has welded, all been fabricated professionally. there is a guy in UK selling kit for Mini all made up for a good price too but all welded. If I was going to weld I could finish it in a day or two really. Even the holes on the top shaft has been done in a some special tank with arc or something. If anything I believe it is better and more collapsible than the original column. |
