Hey, my car has had an intermitant miss in it the last few days. Not sure what the issue is . Drove it tonight in the dark, headlights on and the miss happened and headlights/ dashlights alll went out as if it completely lost power for half a second and then it was ok again.
So you would think electrical fault???
Bad earth from battery ? Or positive lead to solenoid ?

What would cause a complete power shut down? Coil, ign?

Any other ideas appreciated!

Cheers!

I'd say more of an intermittend short than a loose connection.

<EDIT> I say a short rather than a loose connection as, despite what some might think, the alternator / dynamo will keep it all running, if there was a loose connection.

Engine is switched by the key - lights aren't.

Check the common components/wiring for all these, like the Battery, positive and negative battery leads, heavy cable from the battery to the solenoid, wire from the solenoid to the fuse box and the input side of the fuse box. Check all these - especially any connectors on the ends of the cables - I have seen connectors break away from the wire but still be held in place by the insulation.
