Hey can we just confirm again - somebody was saying that the $8 per 4 litres Kmart Price Brand oil is just the 20-50 Mobil oil and is great for the mini - it that true?

Anyone used them>?

Graham Russell uses it for running in engines. I think it's packaged by Shell.
I'm using Valvoline SF 20W/50, $9.95 for 4 litres, at AutoOne. Not bad for a brand name oil, and it holds pressure well even when hot after a freeway run..

I change my oil every 2500 miles. I was doing it every 3000 but the oil was getting too thin towards the end.

Don't forget to grease the suspension at the same time.

I change oil by how it looks, length of time its been in, long trips done, how black it is or how easily it drips off the end of the dipstick.

Oil is a cheap mechanic...

cold starting...dilution with condensed water and unburnt fuel just lessen its effectiveness.....

why leave it in :?: just to boast how long you get between changes.. :?:

Speaking of greasing the suspension - I need to buy a grease gun - what size nipples are on a mini - do I even have a choice - ie are they all standard sizes?

All the same. Standard fitting.
Make sure the gun takes a grease cartridge- too damn messy otherwise.

I top up with oil every monday, by the burn rate I figure it self changes every 1000 miles hehe. Think it's coming down the valve stem with high vacume take off. Anyway I really recommend a good grease of all points as it turned my 78 boxman into something I would be happy to call a mini.
