Value is defined as what a buyer will pay on the day. And so the only true test of the value of anything is to actually sell it.

If your primary concern is maintaining value then may I suggest you invest in Gold and not minis.

There will always be buyers that are looking for original cars and those that are impressed with a modded one.

The Issue in my mind is not so much how much will I get back when I sell, but how much enjoyment am I going to get out of the ownership. The trick is to focus on the type of car that apeals to you and when it come time to sell up and move on there will be someone who shares your taste

Hope it helps
Dat

Exactly what Dat said. There are markets for both.

I agree with the above too, but it does depend on the model of the car

I have a very very original MK 2 Cooper S, it is worth more than a modified Cooper S, because once you modify one it becomes less desirable to the kind of people who want a Cooper S - they're usually after originality

on the other hand, a basic mini deluxe or clubman isn't worth much as an original car, but with say, a 1275, disk brakes, cool wheels, sound system etc. it becomes much more desirable to those who want a cool fast mini, and don't give a toss about originality

just my $0.02
