Hi Phil, count me in too please if you manage to secure the correct rubber. Enough for one car, i.e. two doors. A total of 6.6 metres according to the above calculations. I hope being in New Zealand will not create any issues. Also, thank you Doug for the invaluable research, cheers Glen.

Amongst all the excitement please remember it's the quality and characteristics of the rubber that's important, not just the measured profile. I'm waiting on feedback from someone who may have used Spectrum, Clarke and Scott's for similar products. The cost for 50 metres is a lot if it turns out to be unsuitable.

Once it's been established that it's suitable, I'd be interested in 20 metres, enough to do 3 doors, in case I stuff one.

cheers
John

Please include me if there is a group buy, just enough for one car would be fantastic.

Cheers

Ok well there seems to be plenty of interest.

Just to make it clear this rubber will only suit people who wish to use or have separate pinch mould. The reason this rubber is so hard to source is that it has now been superseded with the door seal where the rubber is fused to a black pinch mould.

Another member is going to lend me a short sample of some new old stock rubber seal. The plan is to take this to Spectrum Rubber and compare it to the small sample they have on their sample board.

Doug is right we need to be sure this is the same softness etc. and I'll do my best to establish this and post pic etc. to get everyone's opinion before I go ahead.

They also list various grey pinch moulds in their catalogue so I will take some original stuff along to compare this as well.

If we are group buying and going to get a good deal I'll take a whole roll please.

Have we had anyone look at a sample, and fit it up yet to see if the door closes?
If not I will order a length and try one door so everyone knows for sure if this stuff will do the job.

See my post above. Once I get a nos sample posted to me I will go and compare with their sample.

Ok so I visited Spectrum Rubber today and had a look at their sample.

First of all for comparison below is the door seal that is currently available for Minis. This type has the pinch mould fused to the rubber and is replaced complete and is mostly only available in black.

Next is a sample of an original new old stock silver pinch mould and rubber seal. They are separate pieces.

Below are comparisons of the original seal next to the profile that Spectum can supply.

The only real difference to me is that the oval part of the seal tends to sort of go the other way, however I think once installed it tends to become circular anyway (note in the original seal photo above I'm slightly pushing the seal into a circle.

The seal is ever slightly thicker but feels just as soft as the original. (Their sample looks thicker also because it's deeper than my sample). It was a difficult to do a lot of comparison because their sample was glued to the board.

Here a photo of both seals side by side on the pinch mould. The bottom one is their sample. The top one is the original, if I had been pushing on it slightly I reckon they would have lined up.

So I'm interested in peoples thoughts. If anyone has any questions ask away.

A single 50metre roll should do seven cars and I'm willing to give it a go, ...are there 6 others willing to throw some money in the hat and I'll order a roll?

Works out at about $67 per car (plus postage)

If you reckon you're sure, I'm still in Brett. I will help you wear the combined risk!

Let me know your bank details when you're ready.
