I have a question.hope someone can answer...my vin tag says my chassis no is...021A2S2M104122 but on the radiator surround on the o/s guard it says...021A2V2M101588..Im confused but Ive just drilled the rivets out to take the vin plate off for painting and found the original colour underneath plate a crappy purple colour.Ive had the vin on the plate checked with mainroads and it isnt on any stolen or encumerence list and the car doesnt have any tell tale signs of accident damage on the left side so just wondering if anyone else has had this on their Leyland Mini its a 73 model.cheers in advance.

All I can say is if it had been damaged and repaired by using a secondhand guard they did a great job welding it in.

Is there anything stamped into the firewall behind the master cylinders?

There should be a body stamping of M2 and 21 and a body number. This number may help you work out if just the inner guard was replaced or the entire front end and firewall and compliance plate. The body number is around 500 less than the cars chassis number.

The above information is as good as I could offer

The build name for your saloon should be 021A2S2M10 and the equivalent van would be 021A2V2M10

The car number and engine give the date. The 8Y engine was Aussie assembled from February 64.

If you have the original windscreen wiper motor, distributor, etc these all have date stamps on them (normally a couple of months before the car was built)

You can get a copy here:

Checked the wiper motor and you're spot on, May 64.

G'day John
Got your book Australian Mini & Moke.. Fantastic tool. It has helped me identify my 1971 Mk2 Cooper S.
VIN and engine numbers were a great help.
Is there a data base showing what colour a particular car was painted and what options it came with?
Cheers
Michael

Hi John,

Might be a bit late for you but see attached. This is from my Mini Cooper 997. I think it was produced in 62 but first registered in 63. If you could confirm the build year for me, it would be greatly appreciuated!

You can see where your car sits in the production timeline using the Cooper Register - viewtopic.php?f=47&t=91060

If it's OK we'll add your car's details in the next Register update. Can you confirm the trim colour?

It was a light green colour (see attached - can be seen on the back seat).
