Hi all,
I have been looking around for a new set of seats for my van.
I have found a set by Autotecnica - they are new range based on a 67 corvette seat, model no. SSBH03.
I have the measurements and the only dimension which appears to be a problem is the squab width which is 620mm, this is about 80mm wider than the standard seat currently in the car.
I would appreciate it if any of you who have an aftermarket or non standard seats could check the width and let me know if they have seat his wide.
If so, does it foul the handbrake or the door pocket.

Google Sparco Sprints. They juuuust fit width wise in my car. The wing of the chair rubbed on the pillar.

Thanks Hanra, just had a look at the Sparco website and it has a seat size chart. Which one do you have?
It appears from the chart, that most of the sparco seats are wider at the shoulder than in the squab.
The seats I am looking at are wider in the squab than the shoulder (according to the dimensions given to me by the guys at Autotecnica) and will fit everywhere else - can you tell what the width of your squab is?

Those will be a squeeze I can tell you now.
If you manage to get them in your car - you'll probably have to cut the door bins off and handbrake access will be difficult.
You may also need to bend your gearstick forward so that you can get the car into 2nd and reverse.

Yeah that's what I thought, just thought I'd ask and see how wide other peoples seats were.
I will go back and get them to check their dimensions.

I have autotecnica seats in my car - the seat base is 620mm long, but not wide.
The seat with is about 480-500, and to get them in the car I've had to offset the seat mounts and remove door bins.

Thanks Harley, I will go back and get the dimensions off them again.
Measured up the seat in the van now (standard) and it is 540 across the top of the squab.
Probably end up getting them redone if I can't get the autotecnica's to fit.

I just went through this issue. Its not easy but there are seats which will fit. Also look at the seats made by Sparco, Bride, Cobra, Velo, Recaro, Corbeau. Make sure you try sitting in the seat as dimensions are only one part. If you arent thick set/broad you will have choices. first step though is to get dimensions sheets and check them

have fitted 85 Honda civic seats to my 73 van and will be fitting 86 Honda Integra seats to 65 van very comfortable and easy fit.

Sparco Sprint

I'll be selling my Mini specific Cobra Subrames which were modified to fit a Sparco. So if you do go the Sparco route these will come in very handy for you.

When you say squab is that the seat base or the seat back?

My Velo seats are 580mm at the wings and they dont fit between the b-pillars, but they do fit in front or behind the b-pillars, which is the natural position (behind the b-pillar) for me anyway. There might be another 40mm in width (so seats that are 600mm at the wings might fit). I can measure if you want.

My seat bases are 510mm wide and 610mm deep, and there is space for the handbrake to work with clearance to the seats.

Just a note, i have to custom mount the seats as the original seat mounting points wont work at all. Thats the only way my seats will work in the cabin without having one seat staggered in front of the other

Hi Braad,

Thanks for the reply. I have sent an email back to the supplier to check the dimensions.
Your width for the seat (I call the a..e section the squab) makes more sense so maybe I have misunderstood the dimensions he gave me.
Overall, the seats seem to be suitable dimensions apart from the seat width - "This is the size of the seat Height 85cm, shoulder 52 width, seat 62 and seat depth 52cm", he has told me they have modified them to suit a number of cars, so maybe this is an option.
I like the style, plus they are a good price compared to the other brands.
I will have to have a base made up for them either way as autotecnica don't have a base suitable for a mini. I will work on that when I figure out if they will fit.
If you could check the dimensions of your seats I would appreciate it. I don't want to cut of the door pockets.

I'm in the process of putting in a set of Suzuki Swift GTI bucket seats, they're pretty comfortable I reckon and fit perfect, heaps of room left to sit side by side with a bigger size mate.
