I like your thinking Harley , BUT , adding a 9.5 degree of difficulty to the job certainly doesn't turn me on , last time i was doing this particular job , it was a big enough PITA
as it was :) ,
now that this discussion has taken place , i must make a note to self to check and see if the R clips are still in place in my car :wink: .

Split pins and LONG nose pliers works for me.
I have seen R clips go awol too.

New split pins.
If I ever get my hands on whoever put already bent split pins into my clutch master cylinder... GRRRRR!

For now the new R clips will stay. I trimmed a little off the end of the clips so they protrude as little as possible.

WELL, i am embarrassed to say that i forgot to check the "R"clips on my peddle box way back then, and just now, while doing a search on split pins i came across this thread , so i thought i'll go and have a look while the car is up on stands and easier to get at , and :shock: , brake peddle "R"clip has come out and is sitting on the ledge , :shock: , but pin was still in place .

Lesson learnt for me , will replace with split pins .
