Hi Guys I have just rebuilt my Lucas round case wiper motor build date 4/69. IE new bushes, brushes & internal switch. How do I test it before I reinstall it? Do I have to time the internal switch ? can I just run it connected to a battery. Which wires do I connect to?

A little bit tricky, but do-able.

The wiring can look tricky because the motor includes an armature brake to stop the motor quickly when it is turned off by the contact breaker plate once "parked". This means there's a wire which takes shorts to earth via a second set of contacts on the switch.

Follow the wiring verbatim, and yes you can test it off the car. It will behave differently though as there isn't any load on the motor, not a lot of magnetic field, and therefore might not stop as quickly as you would expect.

Just that, you will need to make up a few jumper wires with crimps and copy the wiring diagram but using the short lengths instead of the wiring loom.

The switch has numbers on the back, very fine but look closely, and these match the numbers on the BMC wiring diagrams.

Hi Winabbey. The thread deals with a 2 speed wiper motor, my motor is a 12auw that I presume is a single speed motor it has 3 terminals only on the motor. Is there a thread for this motor? Cheers.

The 12AUW was originally a single speed unit, like yours, and then a two speed. The only external difference is the three connectors versus four for the two-speed. I think the wiring diagram (if that's what you are looking for) is in the Mini Workshop Manual, the blue/black book. Do you have one of those? Alternatively, I thought somewhere in that long thread it mentioned the correct wiring for a single speed 12AUW.

I won't be able to post the wiring diagram page for a day or two. Perhaps someone else can in the meantime should you need it.

There's a manual in the how to section

Best to plug it in the car and switch it on without hooking up the linkages. Make sure you earth the motor or it will not self park. Connecting it wrong you risk burning the finger contacts out. But I can sell you some new ones again.

Can you still get the contact on the big wheel for the Leyland 74 type self park
I got a spare one but that contact was rusted out on it when i went to grease and oil it up to put in the parts box

It is called a `slip ring'.
Minikingdomonline has them (like originals) in MS, Convertible Mini has them (in SS I think).
