Doug,
While looking for a reversing light switch (p/n GAE131) to fit on the front of the gearbox replacing the detent plug, I came across Mini Spares UK parts list which also shows an exploded parts diagram for this part. Their diagram shows the reversing light switch fitting the remote housing on the RH side of the remote, opposite the large round rubber bung and next to the gearstick.
I have never seen the switch mounted in this location either - suspect it is a mistake and the cause of the comment in the SLS132.
Regards,
Bill
Bill - yes, I have looked at that diagram. Does the remote extension have a threaded hole opposite the rubber bung to accommodate the switch? I can't get to my car at the moment to check.
Have you found a switch? I find it's easier to use the Lucas part number 34887. I know of a local source if you still need one.
Hello Doug,
1. The only item opposite the big rubber bung that I've ever seen is a threaded hole for the pin (2A3602) to locate the gearstick to the remote housing. Even if the switch was fitted here, I can't see how it would be activated. Still think it's a mistake.
2. Very interested on a lead to find GAE131. Just bought a new one from Leacy in UK. But its thread is 16mm x 2mm and not compatible with our gearbox hole (think it's 5/8 UNC x 11 tpi). Would greatly appreciate a source for the next "holy grail" item!
Regards,
Bill
