I have a round nose mini shell with what looks like YG3S1 body ID stamped on the fan shroud. It could possibly be a 5 and not a 3, only the lower half is visible.
What model mini is it? year?.
I can't find any reference to YG(3or5)S1.
Number on firewall is 1759.
Also has an 'A' sideways on the fan shroud along with number 1263.

Shell has drip rails, wiper holes are inboard of washer holes, no pressings around wiper holes, has hydro channels in floor, floor has both hole at front for magic wand and hole between seats for rod or remote change. Pretty sure floors are not original.

thanks,
Frank

Hi Frank, the number will likely be 2S (2 door sedan). If it is YG2S1 it would be a Mini K (hydro, remote or direct shift).

Those stampings are not from the factory. Different spot and they are all over the place. Looks like they have stamped a chassis number onto a pre 1969 radiator shroud which should only have the body build code stampings.

I would be looking more around these 2 areas circled.

Hard to know what car it is without seeing the rest of it.

The number 1 I have circled should be the start of a number 1263.

The other circle looks like the M2 code.

Sounds like you have a chassis number 1759 and the body code of 1263.

The stampings on the shroud should be covered up and only use the chassis number 1759 for rego.

It is a pre April 1969 car with chassis number 1759 behind the master cylinders. It has the body build of 1263 close to 500 less so everything is ok there. Just get rid of the other stampings.

So the next question is what car is it?

1759 could be the chassis number for a number of round nose cars. An ID plate would have been good.

Try and find the build code M2/05 or M2/06 or M2/15 or M2/50 next to the 1263.

What can we tell from the colour?

It looks like Aubergine, which I think was only used for a short period around 1969.

I could be completely wrong though.

From the original description the wiper panel is the earlier RH park so that dates it 67 ish doesn't it? Hydro channel is Australian pressing but don't have the info on hand on when that change happened and if wiper panel changed at same time?

I only just came across this old post again and I am pretty sure that your car is a MK1 Matic YMA2S4 1759 with a body number M2-05 A 1263. Ignore all the other stampings at the back of the shroud. The only stampings that should be on that shroud are "M2/05 A" which is the MK1 Matic YDO code and "1263" which is the body number for car 1759.

GTO said it all here...Those stampings are not from the factory. Different spot and they are all over the place. Looks like they have stamped a chassis number onto a pre 1969 radiator shroud which should only have the body build code stampings.

Who sold you the body? and did they try to fake it?
