No real need but if the exhaust valve seats are worn I would get unleaded seats fitted. And new exhaust valves.

Great thanks.

Ballpark how much would you think that would cost to all get done for me? IM no mechanic at all and definitely couldnt do any machine work.

I can however buy the parts if need be :)

Send the head to an engine reconditioning shop. Up here in Sydney I recommend Russell engineering.

I'm in Vic.

How much would that part cost? I'll have to try and find a 12g295

Last one I got unleaded seats fitted to, it was $160 just for that, and I supplied new valves. Buy a head then get a quote.
A S/H head done properly will also need new valve guides, springs, maybe inlet valves too.
Check prices down there, ask Link Automotive or your local engine reconditioner.
When buying a head check it's not cracked or been decked more than 0.060". Original thickness was approx 2.750".

Put an ad in ausmini.
If you can't find a 295 head (which are relatively rare here in Oz) I would get Graham Russell or Link? to port a 12G202 head. These are common, were used on the Morris 1100. Then fit 998 Cooper inlet valves, and unleaded exhaust seats with new valves etc.

Ok that's with valves etc done yeah?

And what would be a ballpark cost for boring to 80 thou with flat top pistons ok the 998 and a 1098 crank?

I think 1098 crank is around $300

Yep complete head.

With the engine machining work. Just ring a few of the local mini shops for a quote. But the machining cost is not much. The main costs will be from the parts and assembly if you get someone else to do it.

You want flat top pistons with a 295 head or the C/R will be too low.
Graham Russell has these in +.060", +.080" and +.100" sizes. They come with a Nippon ring set.

1098 crank with flat tops and 12G295 heads work very well. With some oversize pistons and 28cc head you'll still get around 10:1 compression
