My 67 mk 1 cooper s and early 69 mk 2 cooper s with the same early metal style heater show in gtogreen1969 post have plastic demister hoses which I believe were/are original? I always presumes (I know that is a bad thing) that the change to cardboard and foil type cam in with the plastic mk 2 style?
Even the wings had witness marks in the paint from the plastic tube vibrating.
Are we certain that the mk1's and early mk2's with the metal heater had the cardboard and foil type and not plastic?
Cheers
Rod

This has become a very interesting topic and discussion!

The question seems to be: when did the change from early paper/foil to plastic occur? or was there a mixture of both?

Im going to have a look to see if there is any mention of it in John Sneddons book.

Thanks so much guys for your help on this and the discussion

My April 1971 Cooper S has a plastic heater and plastic heater tube.
I understand it's original :|

Thing to always bear in mind in these cases is that one of the biggest problems around the 1970s was local supply due to industrial action etc.

When my dad worked there there were times 100's of cars would be parked around the factory grounds waiting for some obscure part from an outside supplier.

In cases like this they may have needed to use an alternative part.

Would anybody have the exact length of the individual ducts that were fitted from factory specific to Mk2 Cooper S?

There most likely the same for Mk1 S,Deluxe,Mini K as in length of individual ducts?

don't know the exact length, but they're not the same for Deluxe or K as they had a different kind of (optional) heater - under the bonnet rather than in the cabin

If I found the right replacement hose I'd pull mine out and measure, but they're safer where they are. I'd guess at 2 feet per side

Doug might have it in a parts book

The parts book says the Kopex hose is 24" long. I would assume this is measured with the tube compacted to its smallest length as that's the way it would be supplied.

The 705mm mine measured = approx 28", would probably compact to 24", but I'm not going to try.........
