Hi All

I purchased the Tarox 6pot brake setup about 5 years ago and have come across some cracks appearing on the edge of the rotors, have you seen this before and is it a major problem? Doesn't look good to me, I have emailed Tarox, no reply as yet.

Cheers

It sure is a major problem and i would be replacing before driving the car. When it come to safety your brake system is a major safety component and i wouldn't want to be in a car when a rotor falls apart and fails due to cracks. Ive never heard it happening to anyone but I've definitely heard and seen cracks in rotors especially cross drilled rotors cracking from the holes to outer edge due to not enough material. Constant heat and cooling of the rotor and poor quality of material used causes this.

Are your rotors slotted slots if that makes sense? ( long curving slots that go straight though the casting to the hollow ribbed centre)

If I'm carrying on like a pork-chop, I'm having a great time.

If I go very quiet there's a very good chance I broke something.

Whilst not great, also not terribly unusual - you should see the disc rotors in Group N cars

If in doubt, replace!

That's a bit of a worry. Any idea what discs the kit uses, are they made especially for tarox or are they standard on something else?

I had 2 cracks like that on a Cooper S rotor once. It was an RDA one (Chinese). Track days at Wakefield Park did it.

Did you mean Tarax? Rotors made from recycled cans...might be a little soft :!:

For peace of mind, I would replace it.

Definitely need replacing.
Since they charge a premium for a premium product and they're listed as 'ideal for track use', I'd be hoping for a replacement. Any brake component that starts cracking like that either hasn't been properly manufactured, or it's not up to the standard that they claim.
