I read once upon a time on hear how to modify a Regulator so that you can still have it in the loom while running an alternator, just to keep the car looking a little more original.
For the life of me I can't find the post :?

Everything you've ever wanted to know about alternators and generators is in this video

You can make internal connections in the regulator to make the correct wiring arrangements without having bundles of external connections. The original wiring is still connected to the regulator and looks original.

Just need a soldering irons and a couple of short lengths of 4mm wire and rearrangement of the internal connections.
Let me know if you need further info.

Yes please, this is what I had been searching for.
I need to know which terminals inside the regulator to bridge together and what internals need to be removed.
My car already had an alternator fitted in place of the generator. The wires were all bunched together and I would like to fit the regulator and tidy it all up.

Would you be able to post up the procedure for others to use?

Will post up some pics and more info today.

DavidE the MiniMania procedure is for removal of the reg. and re routing the wiring. My procedure is to modify the reg so that the wiring looks original and leaves the reg in place.

Modify the Generator Regulator to maintain original wiring appearance.

The aim is to connect the output of the alternator via the regulator so the wiring appears to be mostly original looking and connected to the Regulator. In most cases the wiring is connected together in untidy bundles and not connected to the regulator.

To allow for a separate connection for the Field or Ind to the Charge Indicator we use the Earth connection on the Regulator and do not connect the original earth wire (Black).

Steps to achieve this are:
1. Desolder or cut the 2 red wire that are connected to the E terminal. We will use this later to connect the thinner Brown/Green wire which goes to the Charge light.

2. Cut the brass strap connected to the D terminal and solder a wire between the D terminal and the A terminal (see 4mm red wire in pic). Clean the strap to aid soldering.

3. Cut the brass strap from the F terminal and connect a wire which connects the F terminal to the E terminal (see 3mm brown wire in pic).

4. External wiring connections using original wires. Note: connect the thinner Brown/Green wire to the E terminal. Do not connect the black earth wire!

You can also get these (although a bit expensive). They replace your old regulator and have a main fuse inside!
