B Pillar holes?

Post subject:  B Pillar holes?
Hi Mini nuts, I was hoping the brains trust could help me identify what these holes were used for as well as the two above the rear bins (I think these were the seat belt buckle retainer)

Also, separate item, the rear seat belt bolts. All my connection points look like this, a welded nut on a rectangular washer plate, would this be a dealer fit item or a much later addition to my car?

In the second pic, the holes are for the seat belt holder clip. I bought mine from minikingdom. Hopefully someone knows what the ones in the first pic are for, I cant remember as the car has been apart for 34 years :(

Mat,

Confirming what others have said, and adding a bit:

1. Top holes in the B pillar are not factory, or anything I've seen before, so most likely done by a PO.

2. https://minikingdomonline.com.au/produc ... -cooper-s/ - if you decide to buy from MKO ask John for the matching screws to suit.

3. Rear belts weren't factory fitted until much later than your car so they would've been dealer or aftermarket fitment. My Sept 1970 car had them factory fitted because of Police specification and they are similar to yours - flat plate with nut, but not welded. On mine the plate is separate and not fixed to the body, unlike later cars where the plate was welded to the body on the assembly line in that position.

Can someone confirm the metal pressing shape where my b pillar holes are. It's kind of recessed , you can see it in the photo if you study it. It seems som people re positioned the buckle retainer to a more convenient location.

Doug, even the nut attachment points in the boot for the middle connection belts are the same "part".

Mine has the two holes on the each B pillar as well from memory. I will check tonight. Strange if 2 previous owners did the same thing, maybe two dealers. Minimat, was yours a Qld delivered car ??

There is an Australian Standard/ADR size for the seatbelt mounting plates. I'm guessing any aftermarket kits would have the same plates for all attachments.

Rather than that bit being recessed you'll find the section either side of the top seat belt mount has been pressed out to allow a reinforcing plate to be positioned behind. My B pillar is the same.

Are the two holes at the top of the B pillar the same distance apart as the original seat belt clip holes? If so then the theory of people moving the clip to a more convenient spot makes sense. I've checked the BMC engineering drawings for the B pillar and none show holes in that spot, so they are not factory.

Okay this is making more sense now thanks to you all.

The holes in the B pillar are exactly the same size and distance apart as the holes above the rear bins. So it seams as though it may have been a common modification to move the seat belt retainer to make it easier to reach.

In line with the plates Timmy linked to, my engineer advised when fitting the seatbelts:

The nominal size of the plate should be 50*75*3mm. If narrowing plate go up a thickness and at least keep the area the same. 7/16 UNF bolts.

Child restraint anchor point needs a backing plate 50*40*3mm. 5/16 UNC bolts.

I concur with Doug & yourself. I just checked mine and they are same distance apart/ size but positioned more towards the front of the car. Mr mig will have to fix them up. You learn something new each day.....

Seat belt bolt standard is 7/16 UNF, not UNC.
