Back in the 60s I was an apprentice fitter & machinist at NSW railways.
My worked over Mini broke the 1098's centre main cap.
Couldn't buy one and the motor was a recent rebuild.
So.. I machined one from railways axle steel, bored it .001" undersize on my big old lathe at home, and hand scraped it to fit.
No line boring. It worked fine. :)

Working on a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the road on a warm engine
Fitting the clamp from the manifold to exhaust flare on a hot engine on the side of the road when it decided to fracture
Trying to squeeze new engine mounts down the tapered sub frame on the clutch side and get the bolt through and the nut on
Trying to remove a very stubborn flywheel when you don't have a puller
Remove old and very stiff rubber cones from the front subframe when they have gotten old, sagged and stiff that they are now a larger diameter than the hole they have to come out of

And I definitely agree with the steering rack and clutch and brake split pins, especially on a Moke you have side pods contort yourself over
