Hello All,
My suggestion to the Moderators is to have a topic on, the hardest job that I did on my Mini, and the way you fixed it.We could all learn from your experiences. which may save us from major stress.I do not know very much about Minis and I have to rely on past mechanical knowledge on other vehicles. I can see from the posts there are many knowledgeable Mini enthusiastic out there in Ausmini town. My hardest job was making new hydrolastic lines. If the topic goes ahead I will explain the best way to make them. What do you think?

Great idea. I have a 'logical working knowledge' of cars in general and have a pretty good idea of the theory for most mechanical tasks, but I often find when working on the mini there are little details along the way that I learn of jobs specific to the mini.

A great example would be the radiator 'easy out' method!

Have a good look through the How To folder. Is this the sort of thing you are thinking of?

steering rack - always a c*nt of a job... best tip is to make sure the U bolts fit through the holes from the inside, and squeeze them closed if they don't - the bastards spread their legs and won't go back in!

Will we be voting on these nominated categories or just adding our own - with possible solutions?
I agree with all the above jobs, but that avoids naming the "hardest" job.
Early in mini ownership I found that replacing the water pump by-pass hose was not easy.
The master cylinder clevis pin job has always been a pain although Dr mini's bent needle-nose pliers helped. Now I find it hard to bend myself into the position the reach the pedals.
Separating the upper/lower front ball joints was a pain until I bought a tool to do it.

I spent a lot of time doing the opposite - getting the cotter pin out. It had rusted to the pedal, so I had to unbolt the pedals and remove the pedal mounts and springs, disconnect and drain the master cylinder and push the brake master cylinder up as far as possible into the engine bay and remove the plunger from the master cylinder to get it out. It took me days.
