Hi
Would anybody have some photo's of the original underlay which is used in the Australian mini's.
Really looking for Cooper s and Clubman GT.
I've done a search and there are some photo's on Ausmini but also some have gone with photo bucket issues.
I have purchased some new Jute and Hessian to create an original look and have completed the inner boot lid area as a starting point. Very happy with finished product. Next is the under bonnet fire wall item.
Hope to get enough photo's to complete all the known area's. Have some original headlining now so will be able to replace that area as well.
The photo's will help with the correct shape/size and locations.

You probably know that the under bonnet firewall insulation is black vinyl with hessian backing, as pictured in the thread referenced above.

Below is a table showing the part numbers for the various items of carpet and insulation in Oz Minis. Vinyl floor coverings are listed in another table. I have BMC engineering drawings for some of these. If you put together a list of the items you are trying to replicate I'll see if I have the matching drawing.

Thanks for that information Doug and I'll try to get goggle chrome sorted.
At the moment I'm trying to locate some vinyl that matches to original patten ( I have a damaged one to copy from but only a small piece.) The patten is very fine.
I will take you up on the offer of the drawings and will let you know which pieces I will need. Once again thank you for your expertise and knowledge. It is very much appreciated. :) :)

Thanks for the photo and also much appreciated :).
That's very interest with the trim panel - I haven't seen that before and I can remember that my Cooper S trim panels had polystyrene blocks as packing glued to the inside to stop movement. I have kept the original trim as it is in very good condition.
Has any body else seen this? :shock:

I had a 65 Deluxe and 66 Cooper S that both had the thick jute wads glued onto the back of the rear quarter panel trims, as per Simonw's photo. I think I even still have the Deluxe trims in the back of the garage with a pile of other trim stuff...

Just removed the door cards on my Sept 1970 S. Glued to the base of the cards are three strips of polystyrene butted end to end, although one strip was broken and unglued and a couple of strips were missing. This looks original to me but it would be nice to see other examples from unmolested cars just to confirm.

Imperial dimensions of the foam strips is 8" x 1 3/4" x 5/16".

I think I'll replace the polystyrene with some foam rubber equivalent and just hope the concours judges don't check. :D

Doug :D. Yes that is the same as my 1970 Cooper S. Front door panels. I have replaced the old polystyrene with new and the same dimensions. Would say that this was an original procedure from the factory for the later models and the earlier models used the hessian/jute. Looks like they used the packing to make the door trim fit tight up against the inner pocket trim for a neat looking fit.
Has anybody got some more photo's of the hessian/jute used in these models - all locations.

Same as mine 3/70 Cooper S. I was going to use some closed cell high density foam of similar thickness. Rear panels don't have any hessian/jute like simonw's picture, or glue marks on them in those areas. I have the whole interior out of mine, if I have time tomorrow, I will grab it out of storage and take some pics for you.

Trying to get some idea's of the hessian/jute underlay in all area's.
Would you have the underlay for the lower boot area :)
I'm not sure if the Mk 2 Cooper S had the underlay in the lower boot floor from the factory?

Sorry, mine did not have the boot area section when I bought it. I have seen some pictures on this site though. My original mk2 I bought in 1976 didn't have it either, whether the previous owner had removed it, I don't know. I was the second owner.
