hello there owners of Rover Minis - I'd like to know what angle your steering column pinch bolt is at when the front wheels are pointing straight ahead Here's a snip from the Rover workshop manual, it shows the bolt at ~45° from horizontal. Is that the way it looks on your car? Attachment: Capture.PNG I'd appreciate it if someone could take a look for me thanks |

How do we know the steering wheel is straight in that photo? Also, they could be in any position - the shaft is free to be installed at any rotation angle till the steering wheel goes in. |

I might be wrong I've not seen a rover one but wouldn't you have to align the indicator cancelling feature correctly and that decides where it sits? Other than that unless the splines into the rack are not the same all the way round I can't see it matters, I don't have a rover though... |

Ive done racks on 2 rovers now, both times the pinchbolt was horizontal. They were both original racks i took out, too. |

I gather Rovers don't have the same kind of self cancelling as our Aussie cars - there's some kind of peg on the base of the steering wheel which goes into a mechanism on the switch, or something JimL wrote: Ive done racks on 2 rovers now, both times the pinchbolt was horizontal. The slot was only across one side of the pinion. |
