Following off the back of a question I asked 13secmini about the 14's he has on his Micra engined mini I have been wondering why more mini fans haven't gone through the process to get 100 pcd 14 inch wheels. All personal reasons aside (e.g.I like 10's etc) I'm curious. They fill the arches nicely and don't appear to restrict the turning circle any more than 13's and the arch cutting is the same!

Curious as to members thoughts.

13-inch combinations.
The 13-inch wheel/tyre combination brings out the worst in everything Mini suspension and brakes orientated - but to many the aesthetics far out-weigh all other considerations. And there are many considerations.

I'm one of those I like 10s but as the above link and quote explain large wheels exacerbate the effects of wear, poor handling and most other weaknesses in the minis handling and brakes.
Spot is for driving more than looking at, I think she looks beautiful but beauty is in the eye of the beholder or driver.... Rocking 10" steel boots.

I'm with fuzz head, but if you're after the "i'm wearing shoes too big" look, then theonly problem would be fitting them in. Apparently 195/4o-14 will physically fit but I'd hate to be a hub ball joint with them hanging on me.

If you are doing it to help control wheel spin or maybe torque steer...then fair enough.

The UK Rovers on fat 13s have a fast rack etc to accommodate them...

I wouldn't be doing it for any mechanical reason. I'd be doing it because it looks awesome.

I'm in the "big wheels on a little car look disproportionately silly" camp. Mine's on 12", and I reckon they're right for the car, I wouldn't go bigger.

The other reason they may be less common is that because no minis wore 14s from the factory they will need an engineers certificate, AFAIK no Australian imported (not special or individual import) or made mini wore 13s so they may? strictly speaking need an engineers certificate too but I wouldn't be sure...

"I'd be doing it because it looks awesome." Really? I suppose if you like the Hotwheels look.

Let's look at the practical side of things and see if theres any reasons we dont see more 14" combos:
1. 14" tyres are hard to get. Last time i checked there were only two manufacturers makin the right size, and they're rarely stocked as i cant think of anything that would have used that from factory.
2. 14" wheels with a 4" pcd are a rare breed- well anything you'd want on you mini anyway.
3. Changing a mini over to 4x100 pcd required parts that can't be purchased off the shelf, so the cost of doing so becomes higher.
4. Bolt on wheel adapters and wobble bolts are dangerous and not legal so they cant be used.

14" and bigger wheels are mostly seen on minis with engine conversions, occasionly there is a practical reason for this (suspension, hubs or brake parts chosen) that wouldnt be there on a factory engined car.

Great answer! 13's might be the go then...

Each to their own.
My S is on 10's. Am considering bigger wheels for a modified mini... not the S.
