I need to fit the grill whiskers to my car, just wondering if anyone had a good reference for the clip locations?

Thanks in advance.

I just hold them with a bit of tape, check the postioning/straightness, draw a line each side and drill between lines. one about 1/3 in from grille end and other about 3/4'' from rounded end.
The slight variations in panels and whiskers would make it hard to position with measurements from another car.

Thanks, the concern is where to locate the end clip, so it's not too far around the corner.

Have a look inside the moustache ends (whiskers) and you might be able to tell where the original clip locations were from rust staining. I have seen some dimensions on either this forum or the Mk1 Forum, so if you do some searching you might get a more definitive answer. Also, if it is the original panel, you should be able to locate the holes by rubbing back the inside of the panel in the wheel well and find the original drill holes, even if welded up or bogged over.

Haha, mine still looks like that as the dumb el cheapo painter bogged and sprayed the clips! :)

Maybe you need the mini-whiskers?

I measured where my clips are. And the dimension from the connection end to the centre of the first clip is 60mm and to the second is 125mm. But the whiskers are not horizontal to the ground and the end turns up so it's just a running dimension.

I'd probably use masking tape to hold the whisker in place and then measure out where 60 and 125mm

Here are some picsImage

Hope that helps.

Those whiskers are side specific too which effects how well they sit on the panel.

turn them up on the end to give it a bit of a Spanish look...

You mean the "Salvador Dali" look? "Surrealism" suits minis.

My sympathies to OnSafari. I am having the same problems getting new cow horn ends to line up anywhere near the whiskers so they look like they were meant for each other.
Using references from other cars (and even the same car) is becoming pointless with new parts. We are not talking modern production tolerances here!
Just keep trial fitting... and don't lose your temper.... that's what the little buggers want!

ps: The "miniwhisker" look is nice.

When I was refitting the moustache ends/hockey sticks/whiskers to my 850, I had to judiciously bend/straighten them until they fitted flush against the curve of the (repaired) apron panel. That made fitting them relatively easy. Hardest part was riveting the clips back in place.
