Every 2nd Mini I've bought had the remains of a locking cap inside the tank..
Almost as common as finding the filler neck lugs or the neck top shagged..

Anyone know how to get the tumblers out of a Deluxe / S door handle??
Quote:

If I remember from when I had to change a broken handle on my deluxe, you needed to have it unlocked before you could get the barrel out.I think there is also a pin that needs removing.

Thanks! It's unlocked already. None of my keys fit. I know if I drive to Mudgee I can get some keys- my mate has oodles of them. Hey there, any key hoarders this side of Mudgee?? :P

Makka, I know our doors are different, but they all had Pommy `Union' lock tumblers and keys back then..
If they don't fit, too bad. Nobody could tell me if these ones currently available fit so f**k it, I brought some in to try..

:? OK a search of some manuals have given me the following two explanations. Neither of them make any sense to me though... but may help others.

Removal of the front door lock assembly
1 Remove the door interior trim panel.
2 Undo and remove the screws securing the door inner remote control handle to the door
panel.
3 Undo and remove the screws securing the interior lock control to the door panel
4 Undo and remove the screws securing the door lock to the side of the door
5 Slide the door lock out of its location in the door and carefully release the two small
circlips securing the remote control handle and interior lock operating rods to the door
lock assembly.
6 Lift away the door lock, then withdraw the remote control and interior lock control from
the door panel.

Removal of front door exterior handle
1 Remove the door interior trim panel.
2 Undo and remove the screws securing the interior lock control to the inner door panel.
3 Undo and remove the screws securing the door lock assembly to the side of the door,
and move the lock up at the bottom and away from the door.
4 Undo and remove the screws securing the exterior handle to the door and lift the handle off
With the handle removed, the lock barrel and push button can be withdrawn as follows:
5 Prise off the retaining clip securing the lock barrel to the handle.
6 Insert the key into the lock and withdraw the lock barrel.
8 Undo and remove the screw securing the retaining plate to the exterior handle.
9 Lift off the retaining plate, operating link, washer, and spring. Now withdraw the push
button.

If you are after a locksmith-for cars, try
www.innerwestsecurity.com
(02) 9660 1811
107-113 Booth Street
ANNANDALE NSW 2038

No I don't work for them, but they helped the wife one day in the Triumph (and got me out of trouble for a few weeks!)
