When this all started, my mechanic had the air filter for fuel injected Minis sent from S.A. He manipulated it to fit the air box but the car ran like a pig & the finger was pointed at the filter. With the filter out, it ran like a dream. What are your thoughts on this? Is there a particular area to sell these parts through & where is the best place to purchase a replacement if I decide to change over. Going forward it would probably be beneficial to have the right air box for ease of buying filters

Do you still have the oval KN filter from the first mechanic? I'd be interested to see if you can squeeze it in as per the photo on the previous page?

Mk2 filter case as linked by gtogreen on the previous page:

Twin Ramflo or KN filters

Ebay UK or a UK mini forum would be a good place to start if you wanted to pass it on

The mechanic returned it to Minisport as the wrong item. The K&N E9001 filters were sent but didn’t fit so were returned for the Fram filters which are now ummm destroyed haha. The mechanic did say that the air flow ratio on the oval filter was the same as on the E9001s. No photos sorry. Any idea of a reasonable price for my existing air box?

Now the air box is sorted, I have been thinking about other things I have found out about my Mini. She has a racing cam & the police special brake booster also bump stops. Does all this give any hints as to her previous life?

What does a "police special brake booster" look like?

I can’t actually tell you. When I had the brakes done a few years back, they ordered in the parts which were wrong (story of my life). When they gave the serial numbers to the supplier from Coffs Harbour - I believe- they stated it was a police special order.

OK wizard Timmy, I have found this filter on the minisport website for Rover fuel injected Minis. Would this work in my car without issues?
GFE1143- AIR FILTER ELEMENT FOR ALL FUEL INJECTED MINIS
Rover models, original unipart, this filter fits all single and twin point injection models sold at nearly half the retail price

I think that would be the standard paper version of the KN MPI/SPI filter that you had installed at the beginning of the thread?

It's possible it might fit, see if you can get the dimensions of the GFE1143 from minisport (as long as you can install it as per the photos on the previous page where it doesn't obstruct the air intake pipe)

I have contacted Minisport & sent photos. Thought I would exhaust all filter avenues first.

Thanks to Timmy for links & contacts. I have been in contact with the RSP forum & have had a few interesting responses. This is the actual filter for my air box & it is believed to be connected to Janspeed as per the imprint on my lid. There are however no product numbers available on the filter. I can obtain the housing from Gumtree as discussed previously but have one concern. It is 300/200/40 whilst mine is 300/180/40. This difference would place it well over my SUs, is that the normal placement?

Ask him to confirm. He must have made a mistake.

The extra 20mm might be towards the firewall rather than the carbs? I can measure my Mk2 case when I'm home this afternoon
