I remember reading some where that the Cooper S brake pedal is thicker that the standard pedal.

Can anyone confirm this difference and if so does anyone know the dimensions?

Correct. The brake pedal is thicker and also sits up a bit higher.

My brake pedal is 8.27mm and my clutch pedal is 6.35mm. Give or take a few mm for paint.

Not sure if same height as the S one.

Thanks gtogreen1969

Is the Cooper S brake pedal thicker than the standard Mini brake pedal?

Yes it is. Std Mini brake pedal is same thickness as the clutch one.

From my limited experience, I reckon that the so called Cooper S brake pedal was standardised in Australian production. My first Mini was a bog standard drum brake manual 1965 Deluxe and it had this thicker pedal. They are easy enough to identify: the foot pad is cranked up a bit higher relative to the clutch, and the pedal arm is roughly 2mm thicker than the clutch pedal and early brake pedals. Also, where the pedal fits into the master cylinder push rod it is machined slightly thinner to match the original thickness. Otherwise Lockheed would have had to produce two types of pushrod...
The earliest brake pedals were prone to twisting when people were standing on the brakes trying to get their single leading shoe brakes to pull up. That is why later 850 brake pedals have a small metal brace welded from the top of the pivot bush housing part way down the arm. Once the Cooper S 1275 was introduced, I suspect Aussie cars at least all used this pedal. Interested to hear the experience of others on this rivet counter topic! :)

I have seen plenty of faked Cooper Ss with a thin pedal the same height as the clutch.

I fitted 998 Cooper discs to a clubby once. The brake pedal in it was way thinner than what's in my 1970 Matic. It used to flex....! So I fitted a servo. :)

My 1965 Delux had the thicker brake pedal. Could really see the difference with my 1963 850 parked next to it to compare.

I don't believe it was a standardised thing. Later they became thicker on clubmans, but obviously the pedal itself is different. I have seen plenty of later roundies with the thinner pedal, and I had a camino gold 71 flapper mini K which definitely had the thinner pedal.

You could be right but were they only used on Coopers? I can find a part number on they clutch pedal AYA5067 but nothing on the brake pedal.

I just measured my MiniMatic's brake pedal with a micrometer. It is 0.312" thick, ie. 5/16".
The clutch pedal fitted by me (ex Clubby, with the pad trimmed square) is 0.246" thick. I know my 850's brake one was 1/4" thick too.

I reckon my Brake pedal is 5/16". It was a bit hard to measure with the verniers. Clutch is 1/4".
