You need an 8TR regulator

Externally regulated alternators have the plastic end

I suggest your 15 AC has the internal regulator, and thus no need for any external regulator.
The original alternator with plastic end cover had the external regulator.

Electricals can do that. :)

What are you trying to achieve? Do you want to replicate exactly what your car had from new? If so you need a Lucas Australia 15AC alternator with an external regulator - originally 8TR but often changed to 4TR.

Otherwise a later alternator with internal regulator will work fine. Just depends on your intentions.

I'll post some photos and more detail once you've replied. Then you can sort out the wiring.

1. Using alternator shown in picture above
2. Using the 4TR in picture above

If the alternator is internally regulated it won't need the external 4TR unit.

Does the alternator have a stamped part number or date on the case?

That alternator is early Clubman, is internally regulated.
Leave the regulator plug on the loom empty.
Plug the brown/yellow wire into the ind terminal. The field wire to alternator is not used.

Edit
This is how I run my Matic. Wiring is still original, I could go back to that but the regulators are unreliable I found.

This what my wiring loom looks like now. It has been cut and soldered and more wiring added.

Not too early Doc. Early clubmans were externally regulated. towards the end of 71 they changed to internally regulated

This is a post I made in the thread referenced at the start of this discussion.

By sheer fluke today I came across a Parts Amendment Advice dated June 1972 for the Mini Clubman parts catalogue (PUB1052). It announces the change from the Lucas 15AC alternator to the 15ACR (part 62921219A) across the Clubman range.

The Car Number change points for the three models are:

YG2S6 - 2017
YG2S7 - 3053
YG2S8 - 1014

In the case of the Clubman GT (YG2S8) this equates to a February 1972 delivery car.

Thats Interesting Doug
I have a 12/71 GT that is internally regulated (reason I said end 71)

The wiring all looks correct and unmodified. In fact the front loom has reversing lights wire and switch on the gearbox. But there isnt any wire in the rear harness (reverse lights were adopted in 72).

I can only suggest that either the documents are wrong
OR
My car melted the harness out at somestage and the only front loom available was a 72 and they replaced it with this.

I will have to have a closer look now

That earlier reference also included the statement below. Note that reversing lights were required from January 1972 as per ADR 1.

On the same PAA is the introduction of reversing lights, which is car 1002 for the Clubman GT. So the first 501 Clubman GT's produced did not have reversing lights according to this document.

Here's the PAA in question.
