Hi all, my local paint shop doesn't the formula for Crystal White as applied to a 72 Clubman GT, or any crystal white for that matter.

Can any one help.

I would of used a sample from the body, had I of thought of this before the car being blasted.

Thanks in advance.

Similar questions have come up on here in the past under a variety of headings.
Type in "paint formulas" in the search box at the bottom of any page in "Chat" to see what has been said already.
It's difficult to use old formulas for modern paint systems due to changes in tints, type of paint, various manufacturers, etc.

A few years ago I went to PPGs main warehouse in Sydney (was around Seven Hill) and they said they could supply acrylic lacquer to a 1969 formula.
For my Crystal White mini, I found a close match in Glasurit 2K and test-sprayed the torpedo mirror to see how close a match it was.

Thanks for the feedback Bill. I've been going nuts trying to find a formula, or close to the colour.

I might go and check out that Glasurit 2k paint.

Try VG Auto Paint. They had codes for my 1970 Jet Red in both acrylic and 2K.

VG Auto Paints also did Nurburgring White for me.

I've recently painted my Van in Crystal White and my spray painter was able to source the original paint code. He said there are quite a few different tints in it and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I'll chase him up for you and get the details.

According to some Dulux Autocolour catalogues I have the colour code is 526-11572.
The 526 part is the paint type and the actual colour code is the 11572 part.
526 is Acrylic - type A - used for refinishing the original baked enamel finish.

It is listed as a Leyland 1969 - 1978 colour.
It is also listed as a Volvo 77-82 colour.

The recipe goes something like this:
The setting amounts are for the Dulux Mark 5 Tinting Machine
19206 Hi Opacity White - setting 430
00742 Reduced Permanent Green - Setting 434
00740 Reduced Black - Setting 454
00743 Reduced Ochre - Setting 500
It also mentions tinter 34178 but the setting is zero and there is no info re this tinter.
If you add up all the setting amounts you can work out the percentage of each tinter.

The other option is to take a colour sample using a part of the car that hasn't been exposed to a lot of light such as the back side of a the number plate mounting from the boot lid or front number plate mounting bracket.

This will give you a start but current tinter colours may bear little resemblance to tinters of the 1960 - 1985 era.

Hope this helps
