Whilst pulling my Cooper apart I found AYA9196 on the rear wiring loom.

When was this loom used (from date to finish date) and what models?

Looks like that body harness was used for the MK II Mini series beginning in 1969. No information on whether it was superceded before the end of round-nose production but I suspect not. Reversing lights weren't introduced until the Clubman series, except the SPO41 harness to enable reversing lights.

On the following page, S is for Saloon and V for Van.

The parts books show that loom as also being used in the early non-GT Clubman production.

Thanks winabbey.

Do you have the illustrations referred to on the picture, if so, I am interested in seeing the Item illustration No.s 1B & 2D

There is a difference between the Mini K rear wiring loom and the Cooper S, in that there is a need for a switched 12 volt wire to run to the rear mounted electric fuel pump. This is a white wire running in the middle pin if I remember correctly. Otherwise it is left empty.

The illustration page in the parts book just shows the routing of the harnesses, not the cable lengths, wiring colours and terminations that I suspect you are wanting? This information is in the workshop manual. Below are the relevant pages from the most comprehensive BMC produced workshop manual, TP832, the black covered publication.

I have a feeling the same loom was used but the fuel pump wire just taped up out of the way on the Mini K. I wonder if a Mini K owner could check their car and report back?

The Mini K looms I have had had the center wire not fitted, but certainly may not be across the board. I would suppose they would share a part number if they were used on either model?

Simon,
The white wire is on the ribbed edge of the block in the middle between purple wire and green with red trace. It's defineatly for the fuel pump.

My 70 Matic has no white wire, the pin is vacant. Ditto the loom in my son's 71 Clubby.

Doug,

Our Mini K is fairly early - YG2S1 776 - and has no white wire in the rear harness.

Ah OK, thanks. So the Cooper S had a different rear harness to the other models without electric pump. All adds to the knowledge base.
