Choke working properly ?
Has it only just started doing this? ,What was it like in the cooler months?

Hello all, My 72 clubman is playing games in starting Some days she will start first go other days she will refuse and require aerostat to get her going Fuel seems ok Spark seems low ( how can I check this apart from visually) It is running a pulsar dizzy Could the module be knackered?? Once again how can I check this Timing appears correct New coil fitted and leads n plugs Once it starts n warms up runs fine Help please |

Yeah choke works properly On colder days sometimes choke reqd and similar temps on other days starts first go without choke it's so hit n miss that has me wondering if the electronic module in the dizzy is the culprit |

try using the choke every time and see if it's different - even if you don't think it'll need the choke, use it |

Properly tuned SUs will always need choke to start from cold..... Cheers, Ian |

Pulsar dizzy modules are very reliable. Either they work fine, or die totally (uncommon) unless you hooked it up wrong. I had twin HS4s on Barney's 1293 and it was always a bugger to start when cold, even with full choke. |

Gadgets mini wrote: New coil fitted and leads n plugs Help please Go back and check the latest thing changed Sime...replacement parts, these here days, vary in quality...there is also the problem of Maintenance Induced Faults...so go over the ignition again looking for loosey-loosey, burning, cracked etc

Is your starter drawing too much Current on cranking not leaving enough Volts to fire up the ignition? Many people overlook this fact. |

I have a 1977 Clubman that was a bugger to start cold. Excessive cranking, full choke, no choke, no throttle, full throttle - it was hit and miss. Some days would start easy other days not. Fitted a Bosch GT40R coil and ballast resistor, now starts like a new car - every time. I also have an old Nissan ute that's is difficult to start (only starts when releasing key from the "cranking" position) Found that when cranking the ignition system would drop out till the key was released from cranking. Found it to be a defective ignition switch. Found by "lightly" turning the key to crank would start every time. Hope this is any help. Cheers Dave |
