I am fitting the engine to the subframe out of the car, can I fit the carbies ? I am lifting the body over the engine and subframe, also are there any other problems which may arise ? Thanks

No you probably wont be able to fit the carbies. it is also much easier to drop the engine in from the top with the subframe already installed to the body.

I've fitted the engine and subframe as a unit a few times, don't have any trouble with it... but no, can't do it with the carbs fitted, they hang over the crossmember when installed.

I'm with JimL....

But be very careful with the exhaust manifold. Some ( including the original S manifold) can be almost impossible to fit once the engine is bolted into the subframe - whether or not the subframe is attached to the car...

Having been caught out, I tie the manifold roughly in place with some thin rope before dropping it into the subframe.

Cheers, Ian
