So just after getting my car back on the road and driving it a lot since, the car decided to take a (oil)leak all over the floor. I checked the oil in the car and ive lost nearly all 5L, all the oil must have drained out from Sunday night because thats when the car was parked. The oil on the ground looks very clean and doesn't look like it has run through all the grime on the back of the engine but the back does look extra moist. The bottom of the sump is wet but the plug is dry so it has to have come from somewhere else.

I am going to have a look into it tomorrow just wanted to know what are the main areas i should be looking at and what i should be looking for?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

I can’t help with the leak itslef, but if you still need to clean up, some kitty litters work well picking up bullk oil!

CV joint seal?

if it leaked out when it was parked then it's gotta be something low down, and the dipstick doesn't go all the way down to the bottom of the sump.

If it's stopped leaking out, use a piece of coat-hanger wire as a dipstick and put it all the way to the bottom of the sump, then see what the level lines up with on the gearbox...

Bar a big hole smashed in sump, to dump that much out it it would have to be something low. The drive shafts and the gear shift rod are all near lower part of sump/trans.
If it was a weepy gasket or loose detent spring plug, it wouldn't have just hapeened nor been so quick. I'd suggest a good wiping over and check next day, it would have to befairly obvious.

Clean up the area as much as you can with degreaser etc...then carefully look for any weeps, especially places like diff covers bottom, sides, back and front of the sump (I have seen casings split)

Or you could just quickly clean it all up, slap down a big drip tray, put a couple of litres of oil in and watch where it is coming from (it may also be something that only opens up when the engine is hot/working)

The other possibility is engine to casing...the small locating ferrule and O Ring may not have been fitted, the mating surface just gooped up and now a little engine and box movement has caused it to leak...it could have pumped a lot of oil out onto the subframe etc....Best of Luck with this one!

Ok after cleaning everything up the only slight oil leak I can see is at the back of the sump where it looks like the sump is connected to the gear stick? But that doesnt look like it is dropping enough oil. I'm going to let the car get hot and see if there are any other spots.

The tip about the kitty litter worked a treat

Edit
I ran the car for about 10min until it got hot still no sign of a major oil leak. I am going to let the car cool down for a while and see if any leaks appear. The back of the engine block looks moist I don't know if that is related.

If the O ring was omitted there would be no oil pressure..

If the gearshift seal is leaking you can bung another in front of it. There is room for this. Or, fish the old one out and fit a `no leak' kit. it is an alloy bush and O ring that goes behind the stock seal.
I found the one Matt Read (`TheMiniMan' on here) sells fits and works better than the common Minispares supplied one does.

Ok after going out for lunch and letting the car cool down still cannot see any more oil leaks. I guess I will just continue to monitor the oil level and the leaks if it happens again I will take it back to the shop. Thanks for all your help

Ok i dont know what has gone wrong. Went for a little drive after no oil came out. During the drive the car cut out and wouldn't start had to get some bloke to help me bump start the car it started and drove home fine. When i got home the car wouldn't start and when it did, it sounded as if it was missing a cylinder and it was chucking out a bunch of smoke. I thought it was a spark plug acting up because i hadnt changed them since i got the car. I changed them the old ones were very black and just look worn. I put the new ones in started the car and it was running better for a while until i moved the choke and then the car just started smoking and sounded like it was misfiring. When i added a little throttle the car sounded fine it was just smokey. If i took my foot of the pedal the car would just slowly die out even with the choke fully out. After the car died it wouldn't start i tried a couple of times and then just gave up.

Im starting to get out of my depth. Any tips or tricks.
If you guys have nothing to try i will just have to take it to someone and get them to fix it either minis-plus or a non mini shop

if you have a mechanical fuel pump and its leaking it will thin down the oil and could leak past the seals mayb just a guess

I think your bang on after looking into the symptoms of a bad fuel pump it sounds exactly like my problems. I have ordered a pump and some pipes hope this fixes it
