I have a 1275 in my 850 with a Magic Wand diff.
The engine has a steady at both ends of the head but nothing at the bottom.
Should I add the two stabilisers that you can get from minisport that brace the gearbox to the subframe ?

I wasn’t thinking of fitting them just for the hell of it, more because maybe there necessary.
But I don’t think the Rod Change box minis have additional steadies at the gearbox.
Is a gearbox steady necessary in this setup ?

I'd fit one, given it's a magic wand gearchange there is no support at all, clubman 1275 (1275 LS, Rovers etc.) engines didn't have an extra steady at the bottom but they did have the little bit of support from the rod change mechanism

You're the best one to tell, if you find the exhaust is hitting the floor, the engine mounts are suffering and the top engine steady bushes are flogging out, then fit one

Bottom steady is more worthwhile than the 1275LS etc top steady. Which didn't stop the engine mounts moving horizontally.

I have the bottom steady set up for my rod change box on the bottom of the 1411cc stroker. Well worth it.

I'm planning on fitting one (or both) to my car when I go back to the magic wand shift

Those look pretty robust. The accessory one sold here in the 60s was a flimsy bit of threaded rod with cup washers each end, it bolted to a rear subframe bolt.

I added a lower passenger steady to my worked clubby last year. I also added poly bushes to the top. It made the pedal response much sharper.

You only need to drill one hole in the subframe and undo 3 bolts to fit the kit.

I believe Santa is bringing me a left and right version from Minispares.
I guess I must have been nice :D ( or perhaps less annoying :| )

Fitted the gearbox steadies today.
Can't believe the difference it makes just driving along gently let alone accelerating hard.

Yeah good call. I'm running the two standard engine mounts, two top engine steadies (one near flywheel and one near the thermostat) and both left hand and right hand gearbox engine steadies. Huge difference I agree. You'd bloody hope so with 6 anchor points :D

hmmm, maybe I should put one on, seeing as I already have the bracket on the gearbox.
