Q. Why can't you produce a Heritage Certificate for Minis built between 1969 and 1977?

1.Unfortunately the factory records kept between 1969 and 1977 are inconsistent and in some instances there is not sufficient information for us to produce a full Heritage Certificate. Where this is the case we can offer a Dating Letter, which shows the chassis number and a build date, as an alternative. If you have a Mini which falls in this period, place your order for a Heritage Certificate as normal and if we can only offer you a Dating Letter, then the difference in price will be refunded. If you specifically require a Heritage Certificate for tax exemption purposes regardless of the amount of detail recorded (since the official licensing or registration authorities will not accept Dating Letters) then please state this on your order form under ‘comments’.

So

The message is, if you managed to obtain a Heritage Certificate in the past...hang on to it...and anyone buying a car with a certificate supplied should look after it :idea: :D

This has always been the case for UK Minis built in that period. They don't have anything from the Rover era either, I believe. Still, even a dating letter is more than you can get for an Australian Mini.

If you are researching a car from UK (like)...and you know original or a UK Reg, then

Prior to their centralised authority like our RMS, local councils registered and issued number plates for vehicles which identified the area or shire where they were issued. The way you research previous registrations is to contact the local "hall of records" or Reference Library/history centre and do a search on Rego, engine number, chassis or owners name if known. Of course, not all will have an online presence (good excuse for a trip to the UK) and there will be charges involved.
