Rebuilding the 202 head and have put new valve guides in with a groove to take conventional valve stem seals. What do the small o-rings which came in my gasket set do? Do I need them when I run the other seals? Thanks

The O ring seals don't get used when fitting the S type (on the right of pic).
You can chuck the o rings if you want, they don't work very well, the S type is the way to go.
Always check the caps don't hit them if you are using long collet valves and high lift cam.

And also make sure the groove fits the seal. I have had to machine off part of the guide to allow the seal to fit before.

Don't the O rings only fit early mini's with the long collet groove?

Yes. I would fit them in, they help stabilize the early collets.
I have used the 1275 seals on plain smallbore guides by smearing some 262 Loctite on the guides.

You fit the O ring into the valve stem groove when spring is compressed, then fit both collets on top of it.
Only used on early valves with the wide collet groove.

Generally yes.
Copper gaskets aren't as good as in the old days, if you get water leakage fit a BK450 composition one instead.
