Hi to everyone. I don't know how to start why I need an auto trans.

About the middle of April 17 I had a call from a friend about a mini 71 Van he wanted to sell. I ended up with it. Got it home, stripped it ready for sand blasting. But as life has challenges and charges things. I went down the coast just past Beqa to help my brother in-law to up a carport. As things moved along there was a couple of tree branches needed cutting.

Anyway on 1 May 17 I feel down out of the tree about 3m. After a couple helio rides to Canberra, I ended up at the "Royal North Shore Hospital" Sydney. After a couple of ops, I was intensive Care and a coma for 4 weeks I woke up and given the "News". I was told I broke my back at T11 plus had a good go with breaking every other bond in my body. Know with no feeling past my waist, I'm para. I have a lot of metal in me I'm so looking forwarded when I go to the Airport next. I was moved to the "Prince of Wales Hospital" for the next stage in my Rehab. Close to 6 months in hospitals, an on 11 Nov 17 I went Home.

Know in January 2018 I've realised I need help to do the mini van up. I also need an auto to drive it with mods. I think a late classic mini might have an engine around 1200-1300cc with auto. The van should be still able to get up bogey.

Please ring with your advise.

Best of luck with the recovery. I can't help with the auto gearbox, but if you need a hand there are a couple of us on the South Coast who can lend a hand.

Good luck with your recovery, its hard work.
There is part of a 1275 auto on ebay at the moment I believe. Someone will have something though. Suggest putting a wanted add on here.

Lyall,

Once you find an engineer (RMS website has those qualified to fit hand controls etc) think about contacting drmini in aust on here or Greig Malure at Classic Mini (02 98747211?) re advice about adapting the auto to your engine...best of luck, its a tough road ahead but you seem to have a positive attitude which is the main thing!

Cheers, Mick

You will need to use an auto cylinder block if you want a 1275. The BIG oil pump sits 1/4" deeper into the back of the block than a manual 1275 does.
I would look for a Rover A+ automatic power unit complete.
Talk with Greig Malaure at Mini Classic, he repairs them. ;)

You will also need an auto subframe, as they are wider, somebody here recently was trying to dispose of one.

Thankyou for your kind words. So far nothing has beaten me. The mini van restoration will throw up some curly ones, but I'll get it done. After all I'm a Mini Lover. I will drive still car and my wife can drive my 64 sedan, and my daughters can drive my 76 LeyLand mini which has a Suzuki Swift 1300 motor, EPS steer, which I will be doing the finishing touches.

I didn't realise that the autos have a different sub frame. Hopefully, the Rover mini will be the best way of going. So if anyone or knows someone has this setup get in contact.

The Rover subframes only have one bolt at the top mount, whereas the Aussie cars have the twin bolt ones. You’ll need to find an early one

Timmy the later frames fit an early Mini with a little work.

just wow... the human spirit is a hard thing to break

ALPINE_MOKE had a container full of engines (maybe on subframes) and I think with a number of Rover Autos - he'd collected them and then sold it as a job lot. He might share who he sold them to if you send him a pm

There will be some around - a Rover 1275 with a HIF44 carb instead of the injection would be the go

Give me a call on Mobile 0409541945 about Rover mini auto stuff.

I have converted my little wheeler moke to an auto

I may be able to help out with a few spares

All my classic minis & moke have been converted to auto, I have an issue with my left knee.
