Looks like one of the alloy bodied aftermarket units sold a few years ago as a Mk I booster replacement. Spares (UK) will sell you a new replica Mk I unit with an iron body...

Or, just pull your unit apart and clean it out. If you do it methodically you shouldn't have any trouble putting it back together. It would be interesting to know how (if at all) different they are internally from the original item. They're not very complicated. The "Black" Leyland manual gives a good run down on the refurbishment of the original type.

Could also be a sticking master cylinder or caliper piston...

Running without the booster is certainly a realistic way of checking whether its your problem.

The bracket is not correct for your type of booster but may be proper for a Mk II/GT (but either way shouldn't have an effect on its operation).

Cheers, Ian

Your bracket is the correct stock one for the Australian PBR VH44J booster.
It has been bent to clear the Lockheed copy booster and it's facing the wrong way.

Do you have any brake or hydraulic places in Guam? Even an aircraft place?

UK boosters are different.

The correct booster is a PBR VH44J.
You can buy a new Chinese copy of a VH44 on ebay but it won't have the same amount of assistance as the VH44J.

This should be the right one, 5/8 bore, High Pressure...

The original brake booster for the Australian Clubman GT was a PBR VH44JA. The later MK2 S used the same booster.
IIRC the A signifies it is a RHS mounting.
The body and vacuum chambers can be rotated and aligned to suit either LHS or RHS mounting.

Just sayin' Doc...for the price of a new one, why even try? Originality? safety first?

This is from someone who tried to get a Girling Booster repaired fairly recently for a non-Mini by two VERY well respected shops...both failed miserably...so I bought a NEW VH40 (9").

PM sent about Hydroboost...

You can get VH44 reco kits from the usual Mini parts suspects should you want to do it yourself. Surely a reputable brake repair place could do it, if you supplied or pointed them to a source of supply of the kit.

I got mine done by B&R Brakes 15 years ago, but it was cheaper recently to get Hydroboost to do them exchange. I will get B&R to quote first.
