Hey there people, I have a question regarding my cylinder head.

The cylinder head for my 998cc...

Is stamped 2A629...

Would this be the same specs referred to in Vizard's book for this stamping or were there differences for the Aussie 998cc...for example do you think the valves would be the sizes he lists? I assume it would be the beaked type combustion chamber.

You'll see he refers to this head being used on 850s and 948s, so perhaps there are some differences?

I'm going to be doing the basic Vizard headwork - just conservative stuff like removing the shrouded area around the valves in the combustion chamber and sculpting the radius a little in the port behind the valve.

EDIT: Okay according to this (clicky) it does run the 1 1/16" and 1" valves. So all good thanks.

Hi Morbo28
You would be better off finding a 202 head off an 1100 cc motor better head less work for you, they have bigger valves to start with (inlets), that head you have is a very low performance head it can be made to work with a lot of work.

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestion. I'm sure you are 100% correct about the 202 head being a better option. (And I didn't notice about the temp sender!!!).

If this was my main build, I'd follow your lead. This is an unusual build where i am allowing myself to use only the bits I have! I have set myself stringent rules.

It all started when I had enough spares to build another car. I'm happy to put as much elbow grease in as required. Just not cash or replacement parts. For good or bad :)

Also I should say GR, I'm looking at your project small bore and Vizard together to look at porting. And the fact that this is not a sought after head means I will feel better using this for my first real port job.

And if I look at doing this engine properly in the future (it's a turbo 998) I'd bit you up for some machining duties if you're available at the time :)
