Post subject:  Camber wrong, will it settle?

Long story short, previous owner put a Morris 1100 engine in my mini and other dodgy things, have put all new running gear under (discs, hubs, calipers) and wheels, but there seems to be too much positive camber.
- Will it settle? hi-lo's are set as low as possible
- Could the top arms be from the 1100? I don't know if they look the same or not
- Can a whole engine and subframe be transplanted into a mini or won't it work? Are they a different subframe? Or would the 1100 engine have to be put into the mini subframe.
- The track seems a bit wider at the front but not excessive, normal?
Thoughts? Thanks

If I fix the camber with longer or adjustable lower rods, will I need adjustable tie rods to correct the castor again?

Standard minis usually have positive camber, the discs and bigger wheels will widen the track - that doesn't look to unusual. If you use adjustable lower arms to fix the camber you will need longer steering track rod ends - these are sold by most mini suppliers as a 'competition' part.

The adjustable tie rods aren't essential, but they are usually heavier duty and less prone to bending, and correct caster will make more difference to the car than camber, so I'd suggest doing the whole lot.

Sounds good, thanks! I just ducked out to the shed to measure the track front and rear, I measured between the tyre sidewalls, it was about 45mm wider at the front so not sure whats going on I thought it was supposed to be difference of 30mm. I have what appears to be the spacered drums at the rear.

before you get all panicky, try pushing the car forwards and checking, then backwards and checking the difference. There is a bit of play in the system, and due to the relationship between camber, toe, and caster, running it backwards and forwards can change the geometry slightly.

That looks really low too, how much room do you have between the top arm and the bumpstop?

I put the adjustable lower arms and tie bars on mine to correct the strange factory geometry.

yep i've pushed it around a bit and bounced it on the suspension, when I get the head back on and a bit more weight over the front plus when I finally drive it it might settle a bit and fix the camber up slightly

Many, many Mini's have benefitted from an 1100S engine injection...several racers have also used them (oops!)...don't know about Dodges though...

I wish it was an 1100s, its just an 1100. But, could it be feasible that the entire morris 1100 engine and subframe was transplanted or won't it fit?? Trying to determine if the top arms are correct or if not are they are whats throwing things out...

Your suspension is all Mini. You can't fit an 1100 subframe or suspension to a Mini.
Morris 1100 top arms don't have shock mounts.

Thanks mate! Good info.

Does it have disc brakes? If so they may be Metro swivel hubs, which give positive camber unless longer lower arms are fitted.

It had (somehow) Morris 1100 hubs and discs and calipers, I don't know how they even went around, hence the need to replace all those bits for new with mini bits

Many, many Minis have benefitted from a well tuned or tweaked 1098cc engine

["No substitute for cubic inches" is a misnomer in the case of a lightweight good handling platform like the MIni]

Yeah hoping she’ll be a little ripper. Has twin 1.25’s, lcb extractors and some mild head work. Will do the cam if I need to pull the engine out. I suspect the Morris 1100 diff ratio will be too low.
