Hey Guys
I am thinking about rebuilding my engine (1100) because of a few issues (blow back, possible cracked block) I was wondering where to take the car and how much it would possibly cost, I want to squeeze out more power from it too if possible. Any input would be great and any stories/criticisms of mechanics and mini shops
Thanks in advance.

Every business, motoring related or not will have its share of positive and negative comments. Some comments are justified, others are not. There's always two sides to every story.

For the "not so glowing reviews" you need to know when they occurred, who was involved and what they related to (e.g. quality of engine building, time to complete a job, price, etc.).

In my personal view if you get David Walker to do the work on your engine you will get a quality job. He doesn't cut corners. How long it takes and how much it costs is subjective so you need to make your own decision on those elements.

Forum rules state that negative comments about a business are not allowed to be posted. People can use a PM if they want to communicate such feedback.

100 percent of unhappy people will talk about it. 25 percent of happy people do.

Most of the Mini Specialists are listed here: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=83593 including us at Minis Plus. I think it's always a good idea to ring a few business's and get some pricing and advice, you then can make an informed choice. I'm certainally happy to have a chat whenever you need. I had a great experience with Len Read's Racepoint Developments in Somerville.

I had an 1100 in my round nose van I wanted rebuilt, but am an engine novice.
Len is formerly a teacher and it shows when he talks to you, he asked what I wanted
from an engine and explained the whats, hows and whys of each piece selected to go into it.

While I am yet to take it on the road, it starts first time, idles well and sounds great.
I don't have full spec handy but things like boring out to 1180, lightened flywheel,
custom ground cam, ported and polished head etc etc, Len did it all in his workshop.
Each visit he had at least half a dozen minis there, from old bangers to full race cars.

Here's his website http://www.racepointdevelopments.com/
