Quick question chaps - I'm looking to buy a decent spot weld remover drill bit. I'd prefer to buy one good one than go through a bunch of cheapies.

Also, is the 8mm one the way to go you reckon...what do you use?

I've seen various style s too, some look like claws, some like flattened normal drill bits. Some with spikes pointing out. What style do you guys know that work best?

Centre punch the centre of the spot weld ,drill through both panels with a 3mm drill bit, then use a 6.5mm or 8mm on the top panel wriggle the drill a bit on the top panel .I then use a screwdriver and hammer, and large pinchers or vise grips to break the weld. Has worked for me for years. You get a feel for it. I have lost count on how many panels I have removed. You can use a spot weld drill if you want. I used to grind a new drill nearly flat with a slight cutting angle, they are called sheet metal drills. Slow speed for the drill required and do not overheat the drill bit. Drill out all the welds before removing the panel.

don't forget to use weld through primer when replacing a weld on panel, spray edges of panels. Comes in pressure can copper based or zinc based the paint will get dragged into the weld as the weld cools. Available at body repair suppliers.
