Hi All

I was going to fit a new electronic su fuel pump AUF214EN and was wondering if someone could tell me what the lug next to the power terminal is used for? There is another one lower down.

To cater for either a ring terminal, or a Lucar style connector, depending on the termination on the wiring?

Are you referring to the breathers?

There are 2 breathers on the fuel pump you have. One goes to the cabin. The other check valve is open to atmosphere .

Hi Gto

Yes I was referring to the breathers.

So at present I don’t have a pipe to connect F to B in the diagram you have provided so will it be ok to fit it without the pipe? I won’t be able to get a pipe till Tuesday and I don’t trust my rather noisy current pump

Thanks again

The bit then is definitely not a "lug".

Yes you can run the pump with the diaphragm breather open to the elements for a short while. They are only there to allow air in and out as the fuel pump diaphragm moves back and forth. A few weeks or months will be fine as long as your not doing any bush bashing.

The so called lug next to the 12V connector is a one way exhaust/check valve that allows air drawn in by the diaphragm, via the plastic tube that goes to the interior under the rear seat, to exhaust as the diaphragm moves back and forth.
When the diaphragm draws in air from the interior the exhaust/check valve closes (there is a small ball inside the valve).
When the diaphragm moves back the air is exhausted through the one way valve. This ensures there is always air flow around the points on the original point type setup.
Is this needed for the pointless electronic version? I don't know but it does provide some cooling for the electronics.

I am confused. Are there 2 breather holes in the SU AUF214EN fuel pump. Does one go the cabin but where does the second go?

The breather inlet comes from the cabin via the tube. The outlet is open to atmosphere via a check valve.

The outlet check valve used to look like this.

I have just spent $300 on an AUF214EN SU pump and there are no intructions.

I bought this because the Facet pump that came with my Cooper S appears useless giving fuel to the carbies only when the tank is full. I figure it's because the pump can't suck, it can only push.

Hope you guys can help. Please see questions I have posed in the pictures.
