I'm looking at new wheel bearings for the front of my mini. I can't afford timken bearings and looked into the minispares bearings. Can anyone help me out with the part number or supplier of wheel bearings to suit drum brakes.

Contact minikingdomonline.com.au or Karcraft.com.au
You are after ball bearings not roller ones. You can also get tapered roller ones which are same design as timken but much cheaper. Check preload on assembly as the spacers supplied are not always correct.
These bearings will fit with drum brakes.

Dr are they the same tampered bearings that suit disc brakes?

Thanks for that. I was told to get the ghk1018 bearings but they are the ball bearing ones.

You can fit either type. The ball bearings are fine for a Mini with drums, they were also used on the Morris 1100 which was heavier and ran 12" wheels and disc brakes.

we have heaps n heaps of the ball-bearing type fronts, we don`t usually fit them (hence why we have heaps of them in stock) they`ll be cheapo as chips if you wanted a set or 2 :-)

if I remember Dad picked mine up from Hooper Bearings in Mascott NSW, probably a bit far for you though.

Yes. But nearly all of my mini bits and pieces come in the mail.

I'm digging up old threads in an attempt to learn about the different types of front wheel bearings...
I have my hubs apart but haven't pressed the bearings out.
The look quite wide on the ID, so I'm guessing they are the GHK1018 type with the built in spacer, hence the apparent width.

I'm guessing most guys replace these with tapered rollers these days?

Is there any reason not to use the type I have? They appear to be in good condition.

It also seems like there's a difference between drum and disc brake cars?
My '66 deluxe would have had drums when new, but now has discs fitted.

Would someone mind explaininh the different combos of parts that can occur here?
Many thanks!

I changed mine to the tapered genuine Timkin ones. I tried the ball bearings with the built in spacers but they didn’t work for me for some reason. But for discs I’d recommend tapered Timken ones

If you try and disassemble the ball bearing type from the hub, chances are they’ll pop apart and the balls might escape.
